"The Historical Significance Of Our Logo"
(or how the story is told)

One day many years ago, when Sandro Botticelli was in Rome, the Pope sent an emissary to see Sandro requesting (although in those days a request was an order) that he submit some of his works to be in competition for a new commission.

Sandro replied, that he was too busy and could not submit any works at that time.

The Pope sent the emissary a second time, requesting that Sandro submit some of his work. Again Sandro refused, stating that he was still too busy.

When the emissary arrived the third time, he had a message from the Pope for Sandro. This being that, if Sandro did not submit some of his work now, the Pope would have him thrown in prison.

In response to this, Sandro made a statement similar to that being, "if the Pope really has to have some of my work submitted, then here; take this to the Pope." Where upon he immediately at arms length, took his paintbrush, and drew a circle, in a complete free hand style, and without a support of any kind, and gave it to the emissary to take to the Pope.

What he had actually done, was to have drawn a perfect circle, when measured by a protractor, at arms length, in a complete free hand style, and without a support of any kind. He naturally received the commission. This then, from an artistic perspective, becomes a measurement of one's ability to draw. The closer you are able to draw a perfect circle, in a freehand style, not even at arms length, then the better the artist you have become.

We invite you to make the attempt, even at a table or at your desk, to test yourself, and see how good an artist you are, or have become. The closer you can come to drawing a perfect circle, the better you are at being an artist.

In reality, this can be done, but can only be accomplished by artists who have developed a high quality ability of skills and talent.

We realize that there are those that can argue that there is no such thing as an absolutely perfect circle. We therefore, point out that we are not discussing this aspect, but that of one's ability to draw.
